Housing Guinea pigs

Hutches.
This type of housing is the most commonest. It should be made of wood and if going to be outside, should have a felt covering on the roof. They come in many different designs: some have 1 floor, some have 2 floors and some even have 3 floors. Recently there have been hutches made which are shaped like pentagons and seem much bigger then the normal hutch.

Cages
Cages are an alternative to hutches and are easier to clean and place indoors. They have plastic floors and have metal bars across the top to stop Cats, Dogs and young children from trying to attack or grab the guinea pigs. Cages can be lots of different colours but should only be the plastic floor. Also the metal bars that go across the top of the cage, are sometimes replaced by plastic covers.

Homemade Cages
If you feel creative and have the tools and equipment needed for building a cage, do it. You must find the right materials for your cage and draw sketches of your future cage to have an idea of what it should look like. For interesting ideas on building your own cage visit the link at the bottom of the page.
